Horror Realm’s Summer of Scares Invades the Hollywood Theater in August

 
 
Three special events for horror fans
 
Pittsburgh, PA – August 2, 2013 – Horror Realm’s Summer of Scares continues with three events at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont in August:
 
  • 13 Hours of Sci Fi – Building on the success of its previous 13 Hours of Horror and 13 Hours of Grindhouse programs, Horror Realm tackles cheesy science fiction movies on August 10.  Doors open at 10:45 AM and tickets are $13 for an all day pass or $5 per individual movie.  All proceeds benefit the Hollywood Theater.  The tentative schedule for the day is:

2:55 PM: The Brain Eaters
3:55 PM: The Frozen Dead
5:30 PM: Yongary, Monster from the Deep

8:30 PM: 2+5: Mission Hydra
10:00 PM: Break
10:15 PM: Without Warning
11:45 PM: Warriors of the Wasteland
 
  • Best of KSWA Event – Horror Realm teams up with the Keystone State Wrestling Alliance for this special presentation to gear up fans for the appearance of legendary wrestling manager JJ Dillon at Horror Realm's fall show (Sept 20-22).
 
The evening will feature KSWA wrestling highlights, Q&A with KSWA megastars including Shawn Blanchard, Dr. Devastation, Lou Martin and Jonny Axx, screening of George "The Animal" Steele’s Q&A panel from March's Horror Realm and a screening of the 1974 film The Wrestler.  There will also be giveaways and prizes.
 
Tickets are $5 for all seats and will be available at the door. Doors open at 6 PM with the program beginning at 7 PM and film screening at 9 PM.
 
  • Horror Fan Flea Market – After a wildly successful first year, the popular flea market returns on August 24 from 10 AM to 2 PM and allows fans to clear out their old horror VHS movies, DVDs, figures, posters, t-shirts and other merchandise to find a loving home with other horror fans.  Nonprofessional vendors interested in purchasing a space may contact Horror Realm at info@horrorrealmcon.com.  There will also be a bake sale and the concession stand will be open.  Admission is free.
 
Following the flea market, there will be special screenings of Rewind This! at 3 PM and Bloodsuckers from Outer Space (on 35 mm film) at 5 PM.  Tickets are $5 for the 3 PM show and $7 for the 5 PM show, or $10 for both movies.  All proceeds of the flea market and films will benefit the theater.
 
The Hollywood Theater is located at 1449 Potomac Avenue in Dormont.  Ample free parking is available at metered on-street spaces or parking lots.  The theater is located less than two blocks from the Potomac Avenue light rail transit station.

Horror Realm Kicks Off 2013 Summer of Scares in June

Pittsburgh, PA – June 11, 2013 – Horror Realm’s annual Summer of Scares begins in June, with multiple entertainment and charity events each month leading up to the fifth anniversary convention in September.
 

First up is the previously announced charity screening of George Romero’s “Martin” to benefit Scares That Care.  The benefit takes place on Saturday, June 22 at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont (1449 Potomac Avenue).  Doors open at 6 PM.  Actor John Amplas, who stars as the title character, will be appearing along with Michael Gornick (Director of Photography) and Tony Buba (Sound).  Tickets are $10 for general admission and $25 for admission plus an autographed collectible poster, and may be purchased at http://www.showclix.com/event/HRF13-5thAnniversaryConvention
 
  
 
 
 
A Zombie Luau will be held on Friday, June 28 at PJ’s Tropical Pool Bar located at the Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South (164 Fort Couch Road, Bethel Park).  Admission is free for zombies age 18 and older with proper ID.  The Muzik Machine DJ Service will play at 7PM followed by local rockabilly/gothabilly band The Devilz in the Detailz at 9 PM.  The bar will offer a special on Duquesne Beer, which is sponsoring the event, and will have an outdoor BBQ menu available.  Commemorative photos by Angela Rocco Photography will be available for purchase.
 
Other Summer of Scares events include a scavenger hunt, additional film screenings and a horror fan flea market.  Details will be announced as they are available.

Horror Realm’s Spring Break Massacre & Zombie Gras Shambles in on March 10

One day convention and costume party offers entertainment relief for horror fans


Pittsburgh, PA – February 26, 2012 – Horror Realm, Pittsburgh’s modern horror convention, offers an event on March 10 to help local horror fans battle the winter blahs and rev up for the start of convention season.

The second annual Spring Break Massacre takes place at the Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South, the same location that hosts the group’s annual fall convention, which will be held September 21-23, 2012.  The March show is on a smaller scale, focusing on interactive events and offering an opportunity for local and first time vendors to participate.

Horror Realm Celebrates Women in Horror Month with Events to Benefit PAAR


Film screening & roundtable discussion to commemorate WIHM

 Pittsburgh, PA – February 12, 2012 – Horror Realm, Pittsburgh’s modern horror convention, celebrates the third annual Women in Horror Month with two events in February.  Women in Horror Month (WiHM) is a service offered through Viscera, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. WiHM expands opportunities for filmmakers, artists, and fans by raising awareness about the changing roles for women through filmmaking, writing, events, and networking.

A portion of the proceeds of Horror Realm’s WIHM events will benefit Pittsburgh Action Against Rape.

Independent Grindhouse 3 Slashes Its Way to the Hollywood Theater on November 19

Horror film showcase includes short and feature projects from independent filmmakers


Pittsburgh, PA – November 13, 2011 – Bastards of Horror and Horror Realm present their third independent grindhouse program as a midnight screening at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont on November 19, 2011.

The Independent Grindhouse program recognizes and celebrates the work of independent filmmakers in the horror genre.  This year’s event features trailers for upcoming films currently in production, plus short and feature films:

My Undeadly, a zombie short film from Dave Reda and Elftwin Films which was named as an official selection of the 2011 Sacramento Horror Film Festival, Shriekfest and the Hollyshorts Film Festival. 

The Slasher Hunter is a parody of slasher films.  Written and directed by Steve Rudzinski and his Dark Mullet Cinema studio, this short film has the tag line “Five slashers. One Slasher Hunter. They're gonna need more slashers.”

The evening’s feature film is Tonight You Die, the second film from Jim Roberts and Blind Sight Productions.  Roberts is an Electronic Media Production major at Kent State University.  His first film, Welcome to Deer Creek, won first place in the 2009 Horror Realm Film Festival and was recently featured on Barnabus Bailey’s Greatest Show Unearthed, an internet horror host program.  Roberts will be on hand for a question and answer session at the end of the program.

Tickets are only $5 and can be purchased at the door.  Tim Gross and Charlie Fleming of the Bastards of Horror will host the event, which includes prize giveaways.  Gross, author of The Big Ass Book of Gross Movie Reviews, will also be signing copies of the book which will be on sale at the theater.

The Hollywood Theater, located at 1449 Potomac Avenue in Dormont, is the last surviving single screen theater in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.  The theater is operated by Friends of the Hollywood Theater, a non-profit organization.  For more information including theater schedules, please visit http://www.thehollywooddormont.org/.

Steve Dash to Make First Pittsburgh Convention Appearance at Horror Realm

Pittsburgh, PA – September 5, 2011 – Horror Realm, Pittsburgh’s modern horror convention, is pleased to announce that actor and veteran stuntman Steve Dash will be appearing at its fall show on September 16-18.  Horror fans know Dash as Jason from Friday the 13th Part 2.  He has continued to work in the movie industry including roles in Mr. Hush, Stagemore and Hemo.  This will be Dash’s first Pittsburgh convention appearance.

Local television and radio legend Bill Cardille will be appearing at the convention on Saturday, September 17 from noon until 4 PM.  “Chilly Billy” is the beloved host of the iconic local television program Chiller Theater, which Cardille hosted from 1964 to 1983.  This is a rare joint appearance by Cardille and his daughter Lori, who starred in the George Romero film, Day of the Dead. Lori Cardille will be appearing all weekend.

Horror Realm has also added director Danny Steinmann (Savage Streets) and scream queen Linnea Quigley to the guest line up.

Beyond the Paranormal

July 11, 2011 – Pittsburgh, PA - Ghost Story TV and Horror Realm in conjunction with Shadow 3 Media and The Hollywood Theater are pleased to announce BEYOND THE PARANORMAL, an ongoing informational/educational lecture series which will examine the latest information, theories and science practices which delve into the mysterious world of the paranormal.
