Skull and Bones Invades May-Hem

Skull and Bones Entertainment was able to make a last minute trip down to Spooky Empire’s May-Hem in Orlando last weekend, thanks to our good friend Melissa Benjamin, Food and Beverage Director at Wyndham Worldwide. I (Ashley) was eager to see John Astin, Oliver Robbins, and Joey Lauren Adams just to name a few, Mark was looking forward to meeting Linda Hamilton, and Vivica Fox, and we both were very excited to finally get to meet Caroline Williams. We were also looking forward to attending May-Hem as we were not able to make it last year, and it would be our first time. We knew to expect a smaller show than in October, but other than that we weren’t sure what we’d encounter.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon. Within a couple hours we met up with members of our convention family, had some drinks and then got our passes so we could go check out the show. We were a bit surprised to see all the guests in one room, though in retrospect I suppose it made traveling between them to say hello easy. Upon our first walkthrough we were slightly disappointed to see that hardly any of the bigger named guests were at their tables, it took only about 10 minutes to make our way through the room so we headed out to check out the vendor room.

The vendor room also had tattoo artists working directly across from vendors, which felt a bit out of place and to be honest a little cramped. However, we enjoyed walking through and seeing what everyone had to offer, and as usual at conventions there was no shortage of awesome stuff, from bags and jewelry, to action figures and art, it’s a genre fans paradise. A new addition to May-Hem this year was Mucklebones Monster Museum which contained several of Rob Cametti's Life Sized Figures, which were fantastic to see, it would be very nice to see it back in October.

Infamous Saturday night pool party
Later in the day we made our way back through the celebrity guest room, and were able to see a few of those guests we were hoping to. Some of their prices were a bit ridiculous, but that is to be expected at conventions. Unfortunately, we were never able to catch Oliver Robbins at his table, and we were a bit shocked to see Ace Frehley had himself blocked off from view in a corner. We were able to fulfill our dream of meeting Caroline Williams, who was one of the sweetest and friendliest people we've met so far. All the celebs we did meet were gracious and kind and it was a good chance to meet some of the people from the movies we love. However, between people who we either found irrelevant, or had never heard of, to several cancellations it didn’t seem they replaced, the guest list did seem a tad bare. We knew it would be a smaller show, but we felt a bit unfulfilled to be honest, and for the first time at a convention actually found ourselves bored, and had a better time just hanging out with our friends. With that said, the Saturday night pool party was the highlight of our trip. It’s always fun to hang out poolside, with friends you only see a few times a year and drink and listen to music and overall just have fun.

Upon awaking Sunday morning, we both agreed on checking out and leaving first thing. We’d seen all there was to see and didn’t feel it necessary to spend another day attending the con. Overall, we had a good time seeing and hanging out with friends.  Although we were unable to get autographs or take photos with some of the guests we’d hoped to, we did enjoy the opportunity to meet and say hello to those who were at their table when we approached. We will definitely be back for the October show, however as for attending a future May-Hem, it would depend on the guest list, as we were not especially impressed.
